"This hotel is located in Centro which is a very dangerous area of Rio de Janiero. The area surrounding the hotel is full of people (including homeless people who sleep in alcoves of broken down brick walls. The streets are narrow and poorly lit and there are a lot of prostitutes in the area around Praça Tirendentes (at the end of the street) along with the clientèle they attract.
If you need to be close to Dumont Airport is okay (~R$15 by taxi), but get a taxi to Copecabana if you want to look for a place to eat. The restaurant in the hotel is okay, but very basic. Breakfast was more than adequate, and I can't fault the service provide by hotel staff who are only too pleased to do whatever they can to make your stay a pleasant one.
The hotel is fine, the surrounding area is not." - Philip Orr

"Located in Centro, this hotel is not for the feint hearted. The hotel itself is fine, and the staff are very friendly and helpful but it is located near Tirendentes Park in Centro, which is one of Rio's most dangerous areas. Local streets are poorly lit and narrow and they are full of people just "hanging out". Homeless people, drunks, and prostitutes are common in the area." - Philip Orr
